Taiwanese and Canadians Versus Filipinos Over Online Gambling
Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 Philippines National Bureau of Investigation has sued three Taiwanese and one Canadian directors of a British Grand Vision International. The said directors and other online dealers, including some Filipinos, are facing illegal gambling charges.
Three Taiwanese and Canadian directors of British Grand Vision International Co. Inc. are facing illegal gambling charges filed by the Philippines'’ National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) October 27, 2006 after a successful raid October 17 at the company’’s headquarters in the Clark Special Economic Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga.
The Taiwanese directors of British Grand Vision International were named as Wang Teng Li, Chang Wei Chieh and Yang Jen Chieh while the Canadian director was identified as Steve Jing Chen Huang.
Aside from the Taiwanese and Canadian directors, other Taiwanese, Chinese and even Filipino online dealers, managers and supervisors were also charged with illegal gambling.
On the said raid, which was NBI’’s response to the complaint filed by Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), an estimated P30 million worth of equipment such as casino tables, digital video cameras, television sets and other casino gadgets were confiscated by NBI.
Computer units, webcams and internet servers were also held in custody by the investigation team.
According to Vicente de Guzam III, Special Action Unit Chief of NBI, British Grand Vision International had no permit from the Philippine government to operate such online casino.
He added that the illegal casino caused local casinos'’ revenues to decline.
